iOS 6.1.4 Released: Latest Apple Update Introduces New Speakerphone Audio Profile For iPhone 5

Apple on Thursday released the iOS 6.1.4 update for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch — internally coded as Build 10B350 — but only Apple’s iPhone 5 will be affected by the new release.

Following the iOS 6.1.3 release in mid-March, which introduced improvements to Apple Maps in Japan and fixed its much-publicized lock screen passcode bypass bug, iOS 6.1.4 comes with one major improvement despite no beta updates issued to developers prior to the public release of the mobile operating system. The biggest change? Apple’s iOS 6.1.4 comes with an updated audio profile for the iPhone 5’s speakerphone.

We’ve reached out to Apple for more information about the iOS 6.1.4 update and how it specifically impacts the iPhone’s speakerphone, and we’ll update this story as soon as we learn more.

Apple is reportedly hard at work on iOS 7, which is rumored to be unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2013, which lasts from June 10-14. The new iOS is said to feature a complete redesign of the mobile interface, removing skeuomorphic elements introduced by former iOS chief Scott Forstall and replacing them with simple and functional textures and features.

The upcoming iOS 7 will also reportedly come with “polarizing filters,” which decrease the chance an onlooker can see what you’re looking at or doing on your phone, and it will also showcase completely redesigned icons for all of Apple’s first-party iOS apps, including Messages, the iTunes Store, the App Store, Safari and others.

For those looking to see what iOS 7 may look like, Brazilian designer Rafael Justino created a concept video of features he believes Apple will include in iOS 7.
