Apple hits 50 billionth app download

xl_apple50bnThe 50 billionth app has been downloaded from the Apple App Store, the company has confirmed.

Earlier this month, Apple announced that it was approaching the milestone.

It revealed that it would be handing the lucky customer a $10,000 App Store gift voucher.

Today, Apple revealed that the lucky customer was Ohio’s Brandon Ashmore. According to Apple, he downloaded the word game Say The Same Thing.

It took just under five years for Apple to hit the milestone.

“Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for topping 50 billion apps downloaded,” Apple’s Eddy Cue stated.

“The App Store completely transformed how people use their mobile devices and created a thriving app ecosystem that has paid out over nine billion dollars to developers. We’re absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years.”

According to Apple, around 800 apps are downloaded every second.

There are now more than 850,000 iPhone apps and 350,000 iPad apps available on the App Store.

In addition, more the App Store is now available in 155 countries.
