Ringtone Converter (Free) is an easy way to create unlimited ringtones for your iPhone. The interface is not the best I’ve seen, but the app is free, easy to use, and it gets the job done.
Unlimited ringtones from existing music
With the Ringtone Converter app, you can make 30-second ringtones from your existing iTunes library. Thirty seconds is pretty standard, though some apps allow you to go up to 40 seconds, including Ringtone Maker by Mobile17.
The interface is kind of flashy, but it gets the job done. To create a new ringtone, you tap the ‘pick song’ icon, select a track from your iPod library (it must be already purchased), and then adjust the sliding scale to choose a starting time. Once you’ve chosen the correct section, tap ‘convert’ and the ringtone will be created. You can preview ringtones under the ‘manage tones’ tab, where you can also share them via email.
To actually get the ringtones on your iPhone, you’ll have to connect to your computer and sync with iTunes. I know, I know — this is kind of pain and wouldn’t it be great if you could do everything right from the app? It would, but I’ve tested at least a dozen ringtone apps, and every one requires this process. On a positive note, you can create as many ringtones as you want and then transfer them over all at once (read this how-to article for more on how to transfer ringtones to your iPhone).
All of the ringtones I created were saved correctly, and I was able to transfer them to my iPhone without any hiccups. Overall, I found the process was pretty comparable to my top-rated ringtone apps, although I prefer the interface on apps like Myxer and Ringtone Designer.
The Bottom Line
Although I prefer the interface on some competing apps, Ringtone Converter is a quick and easy way to create free ringtones from your existing music. Ringtone Converter is a free app and is easy to use — after you download the app, you can create a new ringtone in less than a minute.
